Remotely Operated Radiation Tolerant
Underwater Camera and Inspection Systems
for the Nuclear Power Industry

R.O.V. Technologies Inc.

Equipment

R.O.V. offers a complete line of standard and customized equipment including cameras, camera systems, crawlers, submersibles, manipulators, all related accessories, and work tools.  All equipment manufactured by R.O.V. is manufactured specifically for the nuclear power industry; it is not modified equipment from other environments.

Cameras

R.O.V. offers several types of cameras; each suited for specific applications and environments.  These cameras are utilized in a variety of ways.  Cameras are deployed on poles, outfitted in and on our standard crawler/climber vehicles, and housed in our sumbersible line, as well as incorporated into all R.O.V. custom designed vehicles and inspection systems and remote tooling.

All camera pictures can be manipulated via a wireless or hardwired system to a LAN system.

The R.O.V. camera series contains 10 camera types:

  • Radiation Hardened
  • Radiation Hardened Shielded
  • Radiation Tolerant
  • Radiation Tolerant – High Temperature
  • Radiation Tolerant – Miniature Color or Black & White
  • Zoom/Focus
  • Side View
  • Pan/Tilt/Zoom
  • Area Cams/Systems
  • Borescopes

We manufacture/modify any of our supplied cameras for special applications.

All cameras function in both wet and dry environments.

Radiation Hardened Cameras

The R.O.V. radiation hardened cameras give excellent quality black & white video in high radiation dose fields.  They can be used virtually anywhere in the reactor vessel, even in close proximity to fuel and in low light areas.

The radiation tolerant cameras are housed in a 2-3/4 inch diameter, 6-1/2 inch long, double sealed aluminum housing with an abrasion resistant lens port.  Virtually any type of lensing required can be incorporated into any R.O.V or customer owned cameras.

These cameras are commonly used in the bodies of the R.O.V. standard crawlers / climbers and in sealed housings in our standard submersibles.

See the Camera Features chart below.

Radiation Hardened Tolerances:

  • No appreciable degradation in acute gamma fields of 1 X 106 R/hr
  • No appreciable degradation from cumulative gamma dose of 10 x 106 REM
  • No appreciable degradation from cumulative neutron dose of 4 X 106 REM

Radiation Hardened Shielded Cameras

The R.O.V. radiation hardened shielded cameras are identical to the standard series of R.O.V. radiation hardened cameras, but have the added benefit of shielding via a housing constructed of a proprietary material.

See the Camera Features chart below.

Radiation Tolerant Cameras

The R.O.V. radiation tolerant cameras give excellent quality monochrome video in high radiation dose fields.  They can be used virtually anywhere in the reactor vessel, even in close proximity to fuel and in low light areas.  These cameras are commonly used in the bodies of the R.O.V. standard crawlers/climbers and in sealed housings in our standard submersibles.

The R.O.V. radiation tolerant series of cameras are typically mounted to a pan and tilt device.  The cameras are contained in a double sealed aluminum housing and measures 2-3/4 inches in diameter and 5-1/2 inches long; with size modifications available.

These cameras are used in a variety of applications including stud cameras, robotic arms, and pole cameras, etc.

Radiation Tolerant - High Temperature Cameras

The R.O.V. radiation tolerant-high temperature cameras are identical to the standard series of R.O.V. radiation tolerant cameras, with the added capability of withstanding temperatures of up to 185° F.

Radiation Tolerant Miniature Cameras – Color and Black & White

R.O.V. Technologies, Inc. manufactures/modifies a variety of miniature color high resolution cameras.  These cameras can be configured for any application, and can be used wet or dry.

Zoom/Focus

The R.O.V. zoom/focus cameras produce excellent quality EVT-1 color pictures.  The standard version is contained in a double sealed aluminum housing, and measures 2-3/4” in diameter, and 5-1/2 inches long.

The cameras are commonly used in the R.O.V. standard stud camera systems, pedestal camera systems, and Fuel Assembly Inspection systems (FAIS), crawlers, submersibles, and the INVADER (patent pending) system.

The mini version of the zoom/focus camera is also contained in a double sealed aluminum housing, and it measures 2-1/4” in diameter, and 4-1/2 inches long.  It is used on the standard R.O.V. mini-submersible.

The zoom/focus cameras have a lower resistance to radiation, with a life expectancy of approximately 65,000 REM cumulative or acute dose.  R.O.V. can shield these cameras through the use of a housing constructed of a proprietary material.

See the Camera Features chart below.

Side View

The R.O.V. side view cameras hang vertically and view horizontally.  They are contained in bullet shaped housings with integral lighting, and are available in two diameters – 1-3/8 inches and 2 inches.

The side view camera housings are standard with anodized aluminum housings.  Housings fabricated from a proprietary material are available as an option to provide additional radiation shielding capabilities.

These cameras pan approximately 400°, enabling complete inspection of horizontal circumferential features in vertical piping in one continuous view.

Side view cameras are used as part of the multi-camera system on the R.O.V. INVADER (patent pending) inspection system.  They can also be operated independently through the use of a 30 foot flexible waterproof umbilical which is attached to an 8 inch diameter neutrally bouyant chamber.

The 1-3/8 inch camera, with a special adapter, is capable of entering and inspecting all current jet pump internals.

See the Camera Features chart below.

Pan/Tilt/Zoom/Focus (PTZ-F)

The R.O.V. PTZ-F cameras are compact, watertight zoom/focus cameras with an integrated pan/tilt design.  These cameras have a life expectancy of approximately 65,000 REM cumulative or acute dose.  R.O.V. can shield these cameras through the use of a housing constructed of a proprietary material.

The camera will pass through a 4-1/2 inch X 3-1/2 inch opening, or a 4-3/4 inch diameter opening.  The pan and tilt have integrated clutching mechanisms for gear train motor protection.

A PTZ-F camera is used as part of the multi-camera system on the R.O.V. INVADER (patent pending) inspection system.  They are also found in the standard R.O.V. PTZ pole camera system as well as the standard R.O.V. mini-submersible.

See the Camera Features chart below.

Area Cameras

R.O.V. area cameras are unitized surveillance cameras that are ideal for health physics monitoring of a job location.  Incorporated into the unit are zoom, focus, pan and tilt functions.  These cameras are designed to work in dry environments.

Their small size and weight (only 4-1/2 pounds) make them easy to install.  The optional magnetic base makes installation quicker.

The cameras pan at speeds up to 240° per second and can be programmed with preset travel paths.  Digital motion detection is an integral feature in these cameras and can be set to trigger an alarm if motion is detected in an area.

Area cameras are commonly found in standard R.O.V. BWR and PWR Outage Equipment Toolboxes and are often used for overall surveillance of the refuel floor and other areas of activity.

See the Camera Features chart below.

Borescopes

R.O.V. has several sizes and lengths of borescope systems at the ready for emergency situations as well as planned or emergent inspections and retrievals.

See the Camera Features chart below.
